Natalie Zwillinger is showing pictures that are far from perfect. The Lomo, a simple camera developed in Leningrad towards the end of the Soviet era, has many limitations. Some of Zwillinger's photos are dark, and others are overexposed.

Many are brilliantly colored, but others are monochrome and faded. Quite a few are out of focus. These flaws are exactly what make the Lomo such a sought-after camera among some art photographers. The limitations of the Lomo are not enough for Zwillinger. She deliberately roughs up her rolls of film: She scratches the film before using it and sometimes leaves it to soak in toilet cleanser or water from the Dead Sea before giving it in to be developed. The result is a gallery packed with battered, reworked photos. Zwillinger is madly in love with her camera. She is totally committed to her basic, unsophisticated Lomo. Since she got it, her two professional cameras have been sitting in the closet. She doesn't need them. Her collection of Lomos, however, is steadily growing.
